Mission: To coordinate low-impact development planning and sustainable construction verification in the George Washington Region in order to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Green Energy
Chair: Bob Bennett
Members: Doris Whitfield, Grant Woodwell, Tom Beals
Staff: Kevin Byrnes
Mission: Green Energy initiatives will focus on:
a. Project identification which would realize energy conservation and efficiency gains.
b. Public education efforts to support energy conservation and efficiency gains.
c. Examination and evaluation of alternative and renewable energy technologies which could be implemented in the region.
d. Promotion of “green job” initiatives, including:
- jobs with companies that work directly with environmentally-friendly product manufacturers, and
- jobs with companies that produce energy from alternative and renewable sources.
Green Waste Management (Recycling)
Chair: John Broughton
Members: Kimberly McWhirt, Allan Ramsay, Eric Lawrence Stott, Rick Guidry, Julie May
Staff: Kevin Byrnes
Mission: To promote and enhance the region’s recycling efforts by assisting each of the localities' own programs to increase program impact through regional coordination of local public and private recycling programs and increased public outreach and education efforts.
Green Earth (Natural Resources)

Mission: "To consider, study, and recommend and maintain natural resource education programs and efficient, affordable and practical strategies for the George Washington Region that would meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs"
